The Paris Marathon 2018

A historic race

My dear readers,

On April 8, 2018 will be held the Paris Marathon. Founded in 1896, the Paris Marathon has a long history.

The very first edition took place at the initiative of Le Petit Journal, shortly after the Olympic Games in Athens. The race, from Paris to Conflans, welcomed 191 participants over a distance of 40 kilometers.

It is now one of three biggest marathons with New York and Chicago.

Do you know, my kind readers, why the marathon is called like that?

In -490, a conflict called the first Median war pits the Greeks against the Persians. A battle took place on Marathon Beach, on the Attica coast near Athens. The Persians attempt a landing to invade Greece, but the Athenian forces, aided by their Platean allies, repel them after five days of fierce fighting.

A messenger, Phillipides was in charge of announcing the victory to the Athenian leaders. He will then travel the distance between Marathon Athens and running 40 kilometers to win the city. The news reaches the leaders but Phillipides dies shortly after, breathless.

The benefits of the race

I will be participating this year in the Paris Marathon for several reasons.

This race allows us to admire the city of Paris in another way. Crossing the French capital, offering a breathtaking view of many monuments such as the Concorde, Notre Dame Cathedral, the Orsay Museum, or our famous Eiffel Tower.

The Paris Marathon is, moreover, an opportunity to share a unique moment. It is a friendly gathering where you can meet many people.

I will participate in this unique event because running is for me a passion. Running the race offers benefits that I cannot do without.

As you know, running allows you to have an iron health. We strengthened our heart and ensure an efficient circulation of blood and oxygen through our body. The race allows me to evacuate my stress.

The practice of this sport causes a secretion of hormones in the body that are responsible for our well-being. Endorphins give us a state of intense pleasure.

Running makes me happier! Once our body used to the race, we take a lot of fun during this effort.

My dear readers, I wish you all the best for this Parisian Marathon and I leave you quoting Emil Zalopek: "An athlete can not run with money in his pockets. He must run with hope in his heart and dreams full of his head. "

See you soon!
